Our Vision for 2029: Making Government-Wide Case Management a Reality

November 14, 2024 / #Open Government, #Leave a Legacy

Our CEO Howard Langsam took to the stage at this year’s OPEXUS Annual Summit with a bold five-year product vision: government-wide case management available through a connected suite of built-for-government applications. With 78% of the Federal government working with us today and groups like the FOIA Advisory Committee expressing interest in this type of platform, we believe that we are uniquely positioned to work hand-in-hand with our customer community to take this idea from vision to reality.

Over the past several years, OPEXUS has been on a transformation journey. In 2022, we announced three key tenets that would guide our strategy and investments: 1) government use cases that work out of the box; 2) strong product adoption; and 3) individual products that work better as a suite.

We prioritized the first two tenets initially. The team enhanced our built-for-government applications, designed for the unique needs of open government, OIG, and workforce management professionals and building out the teams, processes, and tools needed to drive strong process adoption.

What does that mean? For each product, we’ve worked to embed the latest legislation, regulatory guidance, and reporting requirements into our products and introduced new tools that better connect different offices within an agency together.

2023 and 2024 Innovations Delivered

FOIA

  • Revamped collaboration portal for intra-agency collaboration
  • Modernized AI assistant to speed up redactions
Offices of Inspector General

  • Audit management and tracking enhancements
  • Investigations directly connected to CJIS for NIBRS reporting
Workforce Management

  • Fair employment practices complaint process (FEP-CP) standards
  • Complaints workflow for alternative dispute resolution

We’ve also launched several tactics to help drive stronger production adoption:

  • New customer-facing teams including Customer Success and Managed Services to optimize our customers’ use of the software
  • A self-service, online Customer Community with the ability to check open tickets and access knowledge base articles for common questions
  • Regular in-office and virtual events to enable our community to share best practices

With a solid foundation of out-of-the-box use cases and an enhanced customer experience, we’re ready to begin connecting the applications that make up the OPEXUS Product Suite together into a single cohesive solution. Picture the ability to retrieve the results of an investigation for a FOIA request within one platform. Or initiate an investigation into employee misconduct following an employee complaint. We’re embarking on the next part of our journey: making highly effective and efficient government-wide case management a reality.

Why government-wide case management is our priority

Our mission is to empower government professionals to build trust in public institutions as effectively and efficiently as possible. Today we support great employee experiences and program outcomes through six core applications:

By identifying how each of these individual products can provide incremental value when connected together, we are laying the ground work to better connect staff within a single agency and ultimately better connect all agencies together.

Activating Our 2029 Vision

We’re building the OPEXUS platform with the people who will use it in front of mind, driving a future where government technology offers exceptional employee experiences to the professionals using it.

What is possible with government-wide case management?

We’re really just get starting here. The possibilities are endless, and we need our customer community of OPEXperts to bring it to life. We’re picturing improved efficiency and easy collaboration, standardized processes within every office in government, one approach to reporting, and innovations that positively impact every single office across government.

But to start, here are some highlights from our vision.

Multichannel, smart intake

Imagine an intake process that spans every channel and encompasses every file type. The OPEXUS suite provides a single point for which all requests flow, but then automatically sorts and sends these requests and cases to the right place. For case workers, they’ll only ever see the cases that are relevant to them. For requesters, they’ll no longer have to submit requests to a dozen or more agencies and departments in hopes their cases are going to the correct place.

Seamless coordination

As a case recipient, picture opening a new case from a central hub and instantly seeing every related document, past conversation, and current approval status at your fingertips. With AI keeping track of updates, pointing out trends and contextual tips, and organizing cases by priority, team, or topic, you’ll be in control.

Deep insight into team productivity and bottlenecks

Picture a supervisory experience that aggregates real-time productivity data: cases opened, current bottlenecks, SLAs, cases closed, benchmarks, and other key productivity stats. With built-for-government technology, submit required reports confidently. OPEXUS will check for errors, flag omissions, and help you submit everything on-time with a single click.

Let’s Work Together to Get Government Unstuck

Government work is at a crossroads, bogged down by rising challenges that require best-in-class technology to solve. Today, 78% of Federal agencies already trust OPEXUS solutions for improved efficiency and greater program effectiveness. Your agency is likely already one of them.
