Get to know Jessica as we chat with her about her role and beyond.

Q: What does it take to succeed in your role or field, for people beginning their careers?

A: For those just starting out already knowing they want to pursue project management, I’d say getting your PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a head start. But, if you are like me and you haven’t had a clear roadmap initially, it’s about embracing the organic nature of your career path and seizing opportunities as they come.

Q: How is OPEXUS different from your last job?

A: Previously, I was a contractor at a federal agency where I wore multiple hats as a project owner, manager, and trainer for the agency’s central enterprise application. However, at OPEXUS, I shifted gears and am working on the software side, supporting multiple clients and projects. It’s an interesting new challenge for me, and has reaffirmed how much I like working on multiple, engaging projects at once.

Q: How is OPEXUS like the government?

A: OPEXUS mirrors the government’s commitment to community and connection. Our team collaborates closely, much like the interagency cooperation I experienced when I was in-house at an agency. At OPEXUS, we understand the importance of relationships, patience, and empathy in navigating complex projects.

Q: Can you share a memorable interaction with an OPEXUS customer?

A: I’ve been fortunate to develop strong relationships with our customers. I remember one executive champion on the government side stood out to me. Her unwavering support during challenging times, encouraging us to get through it together, was incredible. She treated us all – contractors and team on-site – as one big team.

Q: One lesson you learned from your first job that you will remember forever?

A: From my earliest days, I learned the importance of adaptability. Embracing change and seizing new opportunities, even if they deviate from the original plan, is essential for personal and professional growth.

Q: What would you do if you weren’t a project manager at OPEXUS and money was no object?

A: I have a passion for animal rescue. If I weren’t in project management, you’d find me dedicating my time to helping animals in need.

Q: What’s the best thing about being a project manager?

A: The best part of being a project manager is providing stability and organization to my team. I take pride in fostering a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

Q: What’s the best thing about OPEXUS?

A: OPEXUS is more than just a workplace; it’s a community. From Taco Tuesdays to the strong bonds forged with my colleagues, I cherish the camaraderie and shared dedication to excellence. We work hard, support each other, and celebrate our successes together.

Q: What was your favorite electronic toy from childhood?

A: The SEGA handheld Game Cast with the Sonic the Hedgehog game!
